Grain H2O Announces Caribbean Themed Summer Full Moon Festivals Reggae band, Spokey Speaky and Modelo Cerveza bring the islands to Summit North Marina

(May 24th, 2018)  - Grain H2O brings the islands to northern Delaware with four summer full moon festivals. These festivals will be a celebration of music, food and fun held on every full moon during the summer months. Day of the Dead face painting will also be occurring, and guests are encouraged to don their best “Sugar Skull” for a chance to win a Grain gift card. There will also be plenty of Modelo giveaways throughout the evening’s festivities.

Classic Delaware Reggae band, Spokey Speaky will set the mood for these festivals through the band’s soulful, high energy, live performances. Spokey Speaky has had the honor of sharing the stage with Toots & The Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, The Wailers, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Stephen Marley, Inner Circle and many more. The awesome music will start at 8pm every full moon May through August.

All night long, there will be $10 Modelo and Taco plate specials. For the inaugural festival, Chef Phil has created festival tacos filled with jerk chicken, pineapple slaw and pickled red onions. Our regular, award-winning food and drink menu will also be available.

Grain’s Co-Owner, Lee Mikles, explains that the inspiration for the Full Moon Festivals came after witnessing one himself. “While surfing in Tortola recently, the locals were talking about the upcoming “Full Moon Party” on the island that evening. The night was unlike any other, filled with island music, dancing, and local food and drink specialities. After returning, I knew this was something others had to experience.”

New Menu a collaboration of three different chefs to create a step forward for Grain’s New Menu

Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen launches extensive menu collaboration at all locations

Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen launches a new, focused menu at all three of its award winning locations. The refreshed menu brings together over four months of collaboration between the teams at all locations.

“Revamping a menu is always difficult. We are striving to keep a core pantry of guest favorites while continuing to step forward our offering.” says Grain co-owner - Lee Mikles. This menu revamp brings forward many new items, especially in Grain’s larger, “Plates” section, while retaining a slimmer, focused menu.

This is the sixth menu refresh in Grain’s short history - “Our brand revolves around our regulars, some who dine with us multiple times a week. It is important for us to regularly refresh our offering to continually intrigue all of our guests.” explains Jim O’Donoghue - co-owner of Grain.

Having three locations (Newark, De, Kennett Square, PA and Summit North Marina on the C&D Canal [aka Grian H2O]) Grain has a strong roster of chefs from each location (and their teams) who collaborated on this menu:

Chef Philip Brown - Grain H2O - Long time Grain Chef and brand standard bearer

Chef David Wenerd - Kennett Square - 2017 Main Line Today Chef of the Year and Former Executive Chef of the Gables

Chef Michael Dikeman - Newark - Former Sous Chef at Greenville’s Krazy Kats

“We took the existing menu, cut it in half, and then allowed the Chef team to explore and add dishes. It was something special to see them collaborate and taste the results. The process took longer than if we simply dictated a menu, but I’m really proud of where we ended up.” Says Lee Mikles

Many of the award-winning favorites, such as Grain’s fried pickles and the Cubano remain. The chef team came up with some exciting new items, including a roasted mushroom and goat cheese appetizer, a shrimp and pasta dish with lemon cream and butter sauce, and “Nuevo Vieja”, Grain’s take on Cuba’s popular shredded beef dish. The menu also features “Summer Elixirs” or zero-proof craft cocktails containing agave, guava nectar and muddled fruit.

Each chef will be complementing the menu with their own off-menu features throughout the summer, adding a constantly changing list of new items to the overall menu. These features allows each chef to experiment creatively and showcase ideas for the next menu refresh in the fall.
